Georgia Heard, received her M.F.A. in poetry from Columbia University. She is a founding member of the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project in New York City. Currently, she visits schools in the United States and around the world teaching writing, reading and poetry. She is the author of numerous books on teaching writing and poetry including Awakening the Heart: Exploring Poetry in Elementary and Middle School, which was cited by Instructor Magazine as “One of the 12 Books Every Teacher Should Read,” and her newest book Finding the Heart of Nonfiction: Teaching 7 Essential Craft Tools with Mentor Texts. She is also the author and editor of several children’s books including: The Arrow Finds Its Mark: A Book of Found Poems; Falling Down the Page: A Book of List Poems; This Place I Know: Poems of Comfort; Creatures of Earth, Sea and Sky: Animal Poems; and Songs of Myself: An Anthology of Poems and Art.  She lives on Singer Island, Florida with her husband and son.
